Shop Fox 6 Inch Jointer Review

By skimming through this Shop Fox 6 Inch Jointer Review, you should know exactly whether this benchtop jointer is for you.

To save your time, in summary, the Shop Fox is a cheaper, 6 inch, non spiral cutter head, electric bench top jointer.

We rated the Shop Fox W1829 6 Inch as one of the better budget bench top jointers on the market – but we would still go with the Cutech 6 Inch Jointer when comparing the two.

It would really suit a beginner woodworker, or someone looking for a cheap jointer.

If that sounds like the type of jointer you are after, read on!

What’s Good About It?

  • Affordable 6 inch jointer
  • Doesn’t take up much space
  • Easy to move around
  • Capable of performing surface planing, edge jointing and bevel cuts
  • 1-1/2 horsepower, 110V, 12 amp, single-phase Motor
  • Cuts at 10,000 RPM, 20,000 cuts per minute
  • Two-knife HSS cutter head
  • 2-1/2-inch dust port
  • Fully adjustable fence 45-degrees inward, 90-degrees, and 45-degrees outward (135-degrees)
  • Fence size is 22-7/8″ x 4-3/8″
  • Cast iron table size is 28-1/2″ x 6-1/4″ – consider this for length and width of lumber you want to feed through
  • Depth of cut easily adjustable with table adjusting knob
  • Comes with orange push blocks

What Could Be Improved?

  • There can be issues with the feeding table and receiving tables not being completely flat when you adjust it – always get a level meter out when you receive your jointer and check both tables are flat before using the tool
  • Manual lacks information – can be tricky to put together if you don’t have experience with jointer tools
  • Fence isn’t the best quality – it will allow you to reference your cuts, but it could be more precise
  • The maximum length of board you can run through is about 4 feet

What Else Might You Get With It?

  • A separate benchtop planer tool if you want one (to use after you are finished cutting/milling the timber). We will link you to our article on Best Planer 2017-18: Buyer’s Guide & Reviews soon.
  • HTC Adjustable Mobile Base (on Amazon) -Mobile base for moving your jointer around
  • Dust port is quite small, so potentially a shop vac
