Dremel 4000 vs 4200 TL;DR – Which Is Better For You?

In our opinion, the Dremel 4000 wins as the best dremel tool over the Dremel 4200.

The main reason is that the Dremel 4200’s EZ Change chuck and collet system is designed poorly, and could give you alot of quality and working efficiency issues.

There is also the question over the manufacture of some Dremel 4200’s.

Both Dremel models basically have the same performance specifications, so in addition to the Dremel 4000 being more affordable, you aren’t losing anything getting the Dremel 4000 in terms of performance.

In fact, the Dremel 4000 6/50 kit actually gives you 10 more bits than the Dremel 6/40 kit.

Not only is the Dremel 4000 better value for money, but it performs better because of the superior chuck system – making it quicker and easier to change bits, and potentially giving you a better quality of work.

  • Dremel 4200 Summary

The Dremel team obviously had a good concept in mind when they designed this tool.

However, there are two unique drawbacks that seem to plague some users of the Dremel 4200:

The EZ Change chuck system – doesn’t hold the bits firm securely enough, and sometimes it just flat out fails.

Quality of the manufacture of the tool – there seems to be a number of people (much higher than any other Dremel tool) reporting Dremel 4200 tools that last only a few minutes of a few uses, and then stop working.

We cannot comment on behalf of Dremel, but there could potentially be an issue with the manufacture of this tool in particular.

To be fair, this issue isn’t with ALL Dremel 4200’s, just some.
