Can You Use The Intex Explorer K1 Kayak For Fishing?

Although it isn’t specifically designed for fishing, there is no reason you couldn’t use it for light fishing.

The kayak is designed as ‘sporty and fun’, with ‘a streamlined design for easy paddling’.

You can use it in calm/mild rivers, lakes and open oceans. It is not really designed for strong currents, rough conditions and waves.

If you are going in the ocean with this kayak, it would be wise not to venture too far off shore, unless you have a boat nearby.

You would want to be cautious of sharp and rough objects penetrating the kayak material (the material gauge is 30), and follow Intex’s instructions for general use of the kayak.

Also, be mindful that the kayak is an inflatable kayak, and not a hard kayak. So, you aren’t going to have the heavy duty material, or handling and control of a hard kayak. Furthermore, you don’t have the overall room that the two person K2 inflatable kayaks have.

3 tips for fishing in this kayak would be to consider the following:

  • How you will hold rods – inexpensive rod leashes can be good
  • A fish net is handy
  • Think about how you will store your fish in the kayak if catching and keeping
